Fond memories

It was a great summer and as much as many of us had wished and worked for, we just can't save them all. For those that we do, we thank our lucky stars that good people have come forward and adopted a new member of their family.
I'm even getting a new respect for the mental anguish that the Standardbred horse owner's have when forced with the task of wrapping up their horse's career. I guess it's not dissimilar from a pet owner who has to give up ownership. Do you hope to find a good home for the pet in the hope that the animal's future is as good as what you had provided or do you put it down for fear that the animal will suffer a fate of poor ownership. It's a tough call and one that I hope Sadie's place is helping with.
For Christmas I gave gift certificates/donations to friends for a tax deductable donation in their names toward Sadie's Place. It is my way of having the most impact with a limited budget. For those of you who have friends who REALLY don't need another bobble, please consider a donation to a cause in their name. Choose one that matters to you. Then, as I have found, you get a much more lasting gift.
As the saying goes, it may not make a difference to all the horses in trouble out there, but for the ones at Sadie's Place, it matters to them.
In Apples' memory I have planned a barn building project for two year's time. She may not have been MY forever horse but she was the first horse I wished could have been when it mattered.
